Art & Social activism festival
postponed to fall 2020

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

In this period of uncertainty and with growing concerns around the COVID-19 public health emergency, we have decided to postpone the festival to Fall 2020.

The New York City Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have recommended that businesses limit events with large groups as a preventive measure and your health and safety are our top priority.

SO MANY THANK YOU’S

While the spring festival will move to a mostly online format, it has already been a huge success and there are so many who we would like to thank for their enthusiasm and dedication to our mission.

On behalf of the Curatorial Committee, we would like to thank the over 100 socially engaged artists, ethical designers, and social entrepreneurs who applied for our Open Call.

The theme of the spring 2020 festival is Art and Wellness: Healthy Planet, Body, and Mind, and we were inspired by your captivating and powerful viewpoints on this subject. We are pleased to share that submitted applications will roll over to the fall and reviewed when the Open Call resumes in the summer.

To our engaged community of 20,000 strong and growing, thank you for your enthusiasm for the spring edition of the Art and Social Activism Festival. Your emails, posts, and comments motivate us to present an even more rewarding cultural and educational experience each time out. We hope that future exhibitions, Activism Markets, and public programs will serve as a forum for dialogue and action during these complicated times.

To our Public Program Facilitators and Cultural and Social Justice Partners:

Your dedication to presenting a collaborative and inclusive platform for dialogue and workshops is at the heart of our festival mission. We would like to acknowledge:

Esther McGowan, Executive Director of Visual Aids; Amanda Suárez, Manager, Fountain House Gallery; Peter J. Kim, Executive Director, Museum of Food and Drink; Susan Bass, Sr. VP of Programs and Operations, Earth Day; Lauren King, New York City Ballet; Rej Joo, Program Manager, Center for Anti-Violence Education; Alex Beckmann Sound; Courtney Miller, Community Organizer, Citizen Action of New York; Kira Bucca, Editor in Chief of Jejune Magazine.

Special thanks to our Curatorial Committee

Because of the breadth and sensitivity of the festival's subject matter, we created a curatorial committee in order to incorporate a broad range of ideas and viewpoints.

The committee for spring 2020 was comprised of artists, art historians, museum and healthcare professionals. They are: Nicholas Cohn, Nicole J. Caruth, Peter J. Kim, Gail Albert Halaban, and Elizabeth Gavin.
