FESTIVAL: Fall 2019

Dignity: Care for Each Other and Our Planet

The inaugural edition of The Art and Social Activism Festival was met with great enthusiasm, welcoming nearly 3000 visitors for exhibition tours, nights of politically engaged discussion, and Activist Performances from a variety of individuals. Free and open to the public, we were honored to welcome many notable collectors, museum curators, arts professionals, like-minded artists, social justice advocates and arts enthusiasts.

The Art and Social Activism Festival’s mission is to uplift socially engaged artists and ethical designers, creating a collaborative platform to participate in the creative economy and partnering with social justice organizations to spark dialogue and action.

EXHIBITING ARTISTS

The theme for the 2019 festival is Dignity: Care for Each Other and Our Planet. Self-represented artists, small and nomadic galleries were selected following an "Open Call" and thoughtful review process by our curatorial committee. Selected works explore themes of identity, inequality, immigration, forced separation, and environmental degradation. The exhibition aims to inspire reflection, dialogue and action.

MEET OUR CURATORIAL COMMITTEE, SPEAKERS, AND ADVISORS

Because of the breadth and sensitivity of the festival's subject matter, we created a curatorial committee, and worked with peer cultural institutions as well as community and social justice organizations in order to incorporate a broad range of ideas and viewpoints.
